Bristol has become a thriving city in recent years thanks to a younger population and a great reputation as a city for tourists to visit, which has undoubtedly helped Bristol dating. Although you might think about sticking to the usual dinner and a movie when it comes to dreaming up first date ideas, there are plenty of unique ways in which you could get to know your date. None of them require awkward silences, just a lot of laughs!
If you need a little creativity to get you going then try the Bristol dating ideas below:
- Ice Skating – Of the first date ideas, this is best chosen if you are not afraid to fall flat on your face! Ice skating is a lot of fun and the Bristol rink is fantastic. You can also go ice karting there too.
- Brunel’s SS Great Britain – Of the Bristol dating ideas, this is one that you just have to take advantage of. The ship was built in 1843 and is absolutely glorious now. If you have tried the wonderfully varied world of online dating recently then you may have met someone whom you email and speak to online on a regular basis. You may have even talked about meeting up in person in the near future to get to know each other a little better. If this is the case and you do want to take online dating that one step further then you will need to choose from the many possible first date ideas available to you.
Going from solely online dating to meeting up is a big step and you both need to be sure that you are ready to meet up. If you are then you need to talk and find something that fits all of the first date ideas criteria below:
- It should be something that interests you both.
- It should be in a convenient location that it is easy for both of you to get to.
- It should be in a safe and public place so that there are others around if your date does not turn out how you expect.
- It should be something that will put you both at ease to minimise awkward silences.
If you have first date ideas that meet all of the criteria then you are doing well but for the majority of people it is not that easy if you have met via online dating. You will need to talk about your interests because you may like animals and want to go to the zoo whereas your date may hate them and be allergic to chimps! This may sound a bit far fetched and highly unlikely but it does highlight the fact that you just never know and should not assume that your date may go along with what you want to do.
Safety is also a big factor when it comes to that first date off the back of online dating. You should never be completely alone with any individual that you are dating but have never met before and should try and find an alternative. For example, a picnic in the woods is a big no-no but a picnic in a busy public park in the middle of the day is fine. Always try to make your date a day or early evening one in a public place because you just never know, no matter how long you have been speaking to someone via online dating. It is far better to be safe than sorry!

First date ideas are hard to come by for many couples, even if they live in a major city. This is largely because you don’t appreciate it if you live there. If you visit another city then you see the sights. If you live there then you go to the same old bars and cinemas week after week. Belfast is no different. This is why the following first date ideas may give you a wake up call and encourage you to get touristy and creative!
- Take A Train – There’s a steam train network that runs throughout Northern Ireland at the minute and you can readily catch them in Belfast. Why not take a train to another city or town but go the old fashioned way for a change?
- The Cathedral – Belfast Cathedral is absolutely gorgeous. It’s architecture is amazing and there are plenty of things to see and do there so why not tap into it and enjoy the heritage of your city as well as use it as the best of the first date ideas?
- The Wheel – The Belfast Wheel is one of the main attractions of the city because you can see the entire city from the top of the wheel. It only takes 12 minutes to do a full cycle so it’s not as long as the London Eye but it’s perfect to start a date before you move on to dinner.

Nottingham is a wonderful city, especially if you need first date ideas. There’s plenty to do and plenty to see, and yet many couples still choose to go see a film or go for dinner without exploring it. Let’s face it, a movie and dinner is OK but it hardly makes for a memorable date unless you spill wine all over your date’s lap! You’ve got to get creative and make a memorable day or evening for you both.
There are many first date ideas that you can access in Nottingham so it should be easy to find something different but the first date ideas below should get you started:
- The Tales Of Robin Hood – This is one of the best first dates ideas because there are so many things that you can do there. You can try archery, look at the history, go on adventure rides… The list is endless and it’s a wonderful experience so what better way to enjoy a first date and get a potential relationship to a good start.
- Have A Drink At The Music Hall – The Malt Cross Music Hall has been standing since 1877 and is one of the few remaining music halls in the UK today and it’s right on your doorstep. Go there for a coffee in the afternoon or a drink in the evening and enjoy conversation in one of the most enjoyable locations in Nottingham.
- Get On The Farm – Sherwood Forest Farm Park is a great afternoon first date idea. The park itself is huge and has wonderful water gardens but you can also take a look at the rare breeds there. Finish it off with a coffee in the tearoom. Of the first date ideas in Nottingham, this is one of the best for a day date that could extend into dinner a little later.

Following on from the 10 things that you should never say to a girl on the first date, we’ve got to fill the ladies in on protecting themselves as far as possible against rejection. Not only do guys have to watch what they say but girls do too. If a guy feels that he’s being insulted on the first date then he isn’t going to want to see you again.
In some ways, guys are more sensitive than girls. Although girls won’t like a guy that waxes lyrical about his ex or his mum, a guy won’t like any phrases that attack his masculinity or looks. Check out the 10 things not to say to a guy on the first date below:
- For some reason you’re thinner than I remembered you!
- I like feminine looking guys
- You call those muscles?
- Wow, check him out!
- My ex says…
- I want to get married in the next year or so.
- My ex was a bouncer/security guard/professional wrestler/policeman etc
- I’m very independent and don’t need looking after by anyone, especially a guy.
- I don’t do sex, not until after I’m married.
- I can’t wait to settle down and have lots of kids.
Now if you stay away from those phrases on your first date, or variations of them, then you’ll be absolutely fine!

Cardiff is a vibrant city, whether you’re just visiting or whether you live there. If you fall into the latter category then you might not have noticed for a while just how great a city it is. The problem is that no matter where you live, be it London or Manchester or Cardiff, you tend to fall into a rut, especially when it comes to first dates!
Cardiff is a wonderful city if you want a first date to remember! You don’t have to settle for a cinema or a night out in the pub. Why not go for something a little different instead? Try the three ideas below for a change:
- The Chapter Arts Centre – You can choose from loads of stuff to do here, from theatre productions to art exhibitions, so there’s something you’ll be interested in doing on a first date. It’ll also give you something to talk about!
- Go to a gig – Whether you want to go on a first date at the Millennium Stadium or to one of the smaller venues in the city, there’s always good music being made by good bands around the city. Find out what music your date likes and find some common ground for a good laugh and a good boogie (if you have rhythm that is!).
- The Caves – If you want to investigate a little Welsh history and stand in awe then try the caves at Dan-yr-Ogof. There’s always a tour of some sort so make the most of it and enjoy a unique first date experience!

I saw an article in a magazine towards the end of last week that declared that the only way to date these days in via a website. It’s true that online dating is big business but is it really the only way to date?
The reasons given were that it’s far easier to meet someone online than it is by going to a bar or asking someone out if you work them. I totally agree with that. It’s definitely easier to meet someone online. If you choose online dating you can read their profile, read between the lines and figure out what you think they’re like, talk to them in chat rooms and generally get to know them before you agree to a date. In effect, you’ll know whether you like them in advance. Whether or not you get that spark or not is a different matter, but it’s hardly a blind date
If you want a simple life and don’t want to be left wondering whether you’ll be left on the shelf then online dating is probably the answer, but then going to bars can also be fun so you’ve got to make up your own mind! You can always dance the night away if there’s nobody you fancy there!
